Form and Function in places easily overlooked

Shrubs enrich the composition of the garden. They offer year-round visual interest and attract pollinators and birds with their flowers and berries. Shrubs provide a variety of textures, fragrances and colors.

Left to grow freely, shrub masses have a tendency to grow amorphously. With careful pruning, their beauty is maximized and their compatibility with the garden as a whole is improved. Our shrub maintenance work is design-driven with outcomes varying from formal specimen topiaries to attractive groupings with natural textures.

It is a living, breathing garden sculpture.

A holistic view

The garden is analogous to a great tree. This is a holistic view of the garden as a unified, living, breathing, ever-developing entity ... we take the entire canvas of the garden into our hands, not merely the focal point. Not just the painting’s frame, not only this day. In its moving, three dimensionality, it is a living, breathing garden sculpture.

Pruning

Of all the ongoing physical activities in the garden, pruning is the most important work. Pruning determines the garden’s atmosphere today and its structure for decades to come.
